No excuse

Nathan Blackford new editor of the Westside edition. At first I thought it was just because he was new on the job. He took an article about the change of venue and turned it into a calendar item. Now I believe that 1. He doesn't know how to edit a newspaper section, and 2. He doesn't know that if he says something will happen that it ought to happen.

The long and short of it is that I took the time to bring a short article and the photos of the get together from April 9 down to the Courier Press and met the guy where he told me face to face that he couldn't get it in that Friday but it would go today. Well it didn't.

This isn't just some tea party. This is the largest gathering of any Reitz class for YEARS. If that isn't news worthy on the Westside, I don't know what is. He's filling grids with giant photos instead of running Westside news. There's a problem here. We're onward and upward - expecting a call from the editor in chief in an hour.

Subscribing to the blog just means you will get email notice when I post or anyone comments.

Linda and I are decompressing in the desert in Arizona. We went to tombstone today and got checked by the border patrol. I said I was an honorary alumnus of reitz and they said Oh in that case head on through. I knew it would come in handy. Thanks all for the honor.

As soon as we return we will announce the beginning of the process for the condo drawing.

Blog Mechanics

For those of you unused to this true blog format, here is a little primer. Unlike the monologue on the website, this blog allows you much more flexibility as a Reitz 67 classmate. First, you can add your 2 cents with a comment. You can also follow the blog by clicking on the Follow button. You can also insert your email address and follow by email. This  feature will send you an email containing any new content or comments added to the blog so, for better or worse, you will know what is going on here! You can also comment on a comment and not just the main posting. Let the discussion abound.

Although more details will be forthcoming about the prize drawings and the actual mechanics (basically because we're deciding how best to proceed sensibly and fairly) in about a week's time, you can always stop off here to catch up on more details.

The idea is that we don't want the momentum created by our highly successful get together to subside. Rather we want it to build to fever pitch (well, I don't know about fever pitch) but at least continue to build. I don't want the Get Together this Spring to cause the real Reunion to be anticlimactic. I don't think the new committee would let that happen anyway.

So for the next week while traveling, we will try to blog as much as we can, and we welcome you to add your comments and contributions. It's just another venue to keep people informed and connected.

Till next time,

Milton

This is a test of blogging from my iPhone inprep for vacation

Welcome to the interactive traditional blog of the Reitz Class of 67

I resisted doing this for a long time because I felt that while we were developing the website, the directory and planning and executing the Spring Get Together, among other things, like grandkids, work, housekeeping, personal hygiene, groceries, landscape upkeep and Reitz sporting events (grand daughter is  Reitz volleyball, basketball and track), that I wouldn't have the time to maintain the blog except as a monologue.

Now that all the class related stuff is at a bit of a lull, maybe we can do this thing. So here it is. Feel free to let us know what you're doing, thinking, especially in connection with classmates. Now, I realize that one has to be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it.

What I'm driving at is that 1. we don't want anyone violating basic privacy safety guidelines. 2. No profanity, 3. I reserve the right to restrict access, and generally control the conversation so that it remains civil. 4. In the words of Rodney King, can't we all just get along? Well I'm sure we can, so here goes.

We just got an extremely generous donation from a yet unnamed classmate who was overwhelmed by the Spring Get Together and the Website and the directory, well, just everything. It goes a long way to helping us meet the financial requirements of a larger facility for the 45th. Combined with some of our planned fund raising efforts (more on this later) I'm sure the 45th will be bigger and better than Ever! If you've been on FB, you already know that Gary Malin has donated a week's stay at his Orange Beach AL condo for a class drawing which will begin in a couple of week at $10 a chance. We'll lay out the "rules" on the website soon.

The first "rule" is that the winner of the drawing must be a Reitz Class of 67 classmate. Second, the user of the condo must be either a Reitz Class of 67 classmate or immediate family. Not so unreasonable. This is after all a fund raiser for the Class Fund. We will begin taking $10 donations on May 4 in exchange for a numbered pair of tickets, one of which will be sent to you upon receipt of your donation to the class fund. The second of the pair will be retained here in "Reitz Central", i.e. our home office in a big pickle jar. Linda will record your name with the number. During the first week of August 7 or so, we will invite a disinterested third party to draw the winning ticket which we will announce both here and on the website. Needless to say, there is no limit to the number of chances you can donate for since all funds go to the Class Fund. You can contact Linda at 812-425-3255 or 812-625-0067 or by email at linday7632@gmail.com

How's that for a first blog entry here?
